Cannes Lions

Business visual identity created ad hoc to attend the International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France. 

The challenge:

Cannes Lions Festival is the International Festival of Creativity that every year brings together the most creative brands to learn, express and celebrate creativity at all levels.

My task was to develop a bold visual identity that would reflect the company's core values (innovation, out of the box thinking, reach people through the power of emotional data) to make our brand stand out without a physical presence on the Croisette and with little budget available.

The final design:

App with QR code, social media 

Through project managing a diverse team of creative people (illustrator, developer, graphic designer and motion designer) the final design included an app, character animation, social media and digital assets, plus various merchandise.

Character Design: Kenny the Lion

Being Cannes Lions logo a fierce lion, the aim was to homage the event by recreating a refreshing and fun version with the use of the company's brand colours and unique style.

UI/UX design: #CannesYouFeelIt app

A great part of the activation during the event was the creation of an app that would engage with the festival goers by prompting a simple question such as 'how are you feeling today' followed by an emotional response (the user could choose between 6 emotions). Users could choose to share how they were feeling, explore what others were feeling or even find emotions were trending in different locations. A short series of splash pages would explain the apps features, illustrated by an animated version of Kenny.

SWAG

In order to maximise the low key presence of the Unruly team a Cannes we created a QR code to prompt the app access which was printed on various swag such as sun screen bottles, business cards and power banks.

Digital and Social Media Campaign

​A digital campaign was also designed to generate traffic on Unruly's social media channel and brand awareness using the app and the hashtag #CannesYouFeelIt as vehicle. People would post live from the Croisette with our hashtag and the Marketing Team would post daily round up for each day of the festival. For this purpose a series of funny animations and digital assets were ad hoc designed.
